Guidelines for Unit Meetings & Outings… an Update

Samoset Scouting continues to be in a Phase II Reopening Plan and has been since July 1.  This means all visitors to the Scout Shop or office must wear a face covering, staff are doing the same.  Disposable versions will be on hand for anyone that does not have one.

Units can continue to have meetings and outings, just remember these simple steps:

  1. Make a plan
  2. Communicate with the participants
  3. Have a fun and safe meeting
  4. Review how it went and adjust as necessary

Meetings and outings with up to 50 people are possible if you are prepared using the four steps above as well as ensuring that the indoor space is large enough for social distancing, face coverings are worn and disinfecting/cleaning agents are available.  Outdoor meetings and outings are possible without face coverings if participants can maintain at least 6 feet of distancing, if not face coverings are required.  It’s a good practice to ensure all participants whether an indoor or outdoor activity have a face covering available for times when social distancing is not possible.  Just remember, you are in charge as a Scout leader and you can make adjustments to lower participation numbers and additional safety measures as you and your fellow leaders feel comfortable with.

Samoset Scouting has plans to publish more on this topic for unit leader/parent guidance by our September 3 virtual roundtable.  The information will be posted to the website.

Please do your best as a Scout leader to keep to your den, patrol, pack, troop and crew meetings occurring in a safe fashion in order to keep your local Scouting program strong.  Let us know how else we can help you.

Recruitment Resources

Recruitment season here and there’s no doubt that your recruiting plans are going to look a lot different this year.

Right now, packs and troops should be planning their joining events and we're here to make them a success. These could be the traditional “at-school” joining night, a virtual recruitment event or even a neighborhood-based small gathering. The trick is to get creative and to reach out to new families anyway you can!

2020 Popcorn Sale

Sign Up for the Popcorn Sale Fundraiser

The Popcorn Sale is an easy way to support your unit program, continue to teach Scouts how to interact with other adults where they learn sales skills, basic accounting and earn money to help support their own way in the Scouting program.  Part of the proceeds support Samoset Scouting programs too.  The sale runs from 9/28 -10/28.

See below for how to sign your unit up for the sale.  Unit popcorn sale informational toolkits were distributed at the August 18 & 20 Program Kick-off events.  If your unit did not receive one, please contact the Scout Office at 715-355-1450 and we will get one to you.

There are two methods of selling this year:

Show & Sell – where you order popcorn ahead of time and give it to customers as you sell it.  Your unit must be signed up for the sale and order your product by August 28.  It will be available for unit distribution on Friday, September 11.

Take Order – the traditional method of taking orders, then following up at a later date to deliver the product to the customers. Orders are due October 28.  Unit distribution is on November 13-14.

Online – There is an online sale option that should be an integral part of your unit’s plan this fall.  Scouts/parents can share the opportunity to support Scouting through popcorn virtually!

Every unit participating in the sale needs to register using the information below.  For most units the person completing this registration is your popcorn kernel.

Update your BeAScout Pin

Updating your BeAScout.org pin is simple, and it’s a good way to make sure your information is current — that it doesn’t list last year’s Cubmaster or meeting time, for example. Access to update your pin is available to all unit leaders, including committee members. Click here to watch a "how to" video on updating your pin.
