2020 Popcorn sale

The annual popcorn sale provides the best opportunity for Scout units to raise the money necessary for a quality, year-round program.  This sale is organized by the council, making it simple and easy for the units to participate.  Our team is planning the fall sale to make sure Scouts, parents and customers feel comfortable about their popcorn transaction.

We need your help!  Every unit participating in the sale needs to register using the information below.  For most units the person completing this registration is your popcorn kernel.

  1. Go to PRPopcorn.com

  3. Click on “Create Unit Profile”
  4. Enter your Council Key (Council Key: 627SAM)

Scouting Join Us Night

The Samoset Council will be having one council wide Cub Scouts recruitment night event on September 17th at 6:30 pm. Please check with your Cubmaster or contact the council for location details. Please share this event with everyone so we can welcome in new youth to the Scouting experience. We need your help more than ever before to spread the word.

Update your BeAScout Pin

Updating your BeAScout.org pin is simple, and it’s a good way to make sure your information is current — that it doesn’t list last year’s Cubmaster or meeting time, for example. Access to update your pin is available to all unit leaders, including committee members. Click here to watch a "how to" video on updating your pin.

Saying Goodbye to a Long-time Scouter

Some people have a lasting impact on our lives, and Donald C. “Don” Southworth was one of those people.  Don was active in Scouting for over 50 years, starting with his sons in Webelos and then serving as Scoutmaster for the Marathon troop for more than 15 years.  Don maintained a presence with the Marathon units serving as Committee Chair until he was unable to be effective in his later years.

Don was a man of integrity, honor and vision.  He served on the Samoset Council board (among other boards and distinguished service organizations) for many years.  When a new board president suggested term-limits, Don understood the benefit and supported the effort, even knowing that meant he had to resign.  But that didn’t stop Don from making an impact.  Don served on many council planning committees supporting our Scouts to attend the National Jamboree, Wood Badge training staff, and was a trustee for the Tesomas Alumni Camping Trust.

Perhaps the role that Don will be most remembered for was his involvement with the Rib Mountain Eagle Board of Review, where he approved over 2000 Eagle Scout projects, and conducted 629 Eagle Scout Board of Reviews.  He always showed up in full, proper uniform, asking appropriate questions, and praising the Eagle candidate’s answers.  Don had a way of making every Scout feel at ease, even though he was a large framed man standing well over 6 feet.

Don served Scouting both on the forefront and in the background, always very organized and professional.  His heart was with and for the Scout, and he worked tirelessly to make Scouting in Samoset the very best it could be.  He was a mentor to many, and a friend to all.  We will miss you Don!
