Scouting For Food

Samoset Scouts spend two weekends canvasing their neighborhoods collecting bags of food from the community to help fill the shelves of local food pantries. Samoset Council partners with over 50 food pantries in 13 counties and collects 60 tons of food annually. This project helps fill a tremendous need in the community and teaches our Scouts the importance of giving back to their community. Remember that you are helping the families in your community who need it most!

Look for our Scout branded, yellow grocery bags (graciously donated by Trig’s) on your front door Saturday, April 14th, and fill them up with (non-expired) non-perishable food. Then, place the full bag outside your front door by 9:00am on Saturday, April 21st so our Scouts can pick up your donations swiftly and effectively.

Suggested Non-perishable items: Soup, dry pasta, dry mixes, canned foods, boxed food, flour, and sugar.

Camp Scholarships

The Tesomas Alumni Camping Trust has been established to assist any Scout or leader with financial need to experience outdoor adventure, including summer camp, winter camp, or high adventure.  Request must be made using the campership application for each person by April 1.

Updated Youth Protection

Over the decades, the Boy Scouts of America has been a leader in developing training and policies designed to keep young people safe. Over time, these policies have become standard with organizations across the nation. Now, the Boy Scouts of America is releasing fully updated training to further strengthen our ability to protect youth.

Summer Camp Health Forms

We’re mere months away from the summer; and while it’s too early to pack your bags and load the trailer, the time is right for one essential step in summer Scouting preparation.

It’s time to get your physical. As noted on the Annual Health and Medial Record website, a pre-participation physical is needed for resident campers (at summer or winter camps) and for Scouts and adult leaders attending events that last 72 hours or more.

The Annual Health and Medical Record (AHMR) comes in three parts:

  1. Part A is an informed consent, release agreement and authorization that needs to be signed by every participant (or a parent and/or legal guardian for all youth under 18).
  2. Part B is general information and a health history.
  3. Part C is your pre-participation physical certification completed by a certified and licensed physician.

Learn more about the Annual Health and Medical Record.

2018 Philmont Trip

We still have one youth and one adult spot open for this summer’s trek, July 8-21, 2018! Estimated cost for this experience is $995 per Scout plus travel expenses.  Contact Scott Domino at 715-490-2241 to learn more.

Volunteer Rangers & Commissioners

Adults are needed for the Volunteer Ranger and Commissioner Staff at camp this summer. Each program provides room and board for a week at camp and in return all we asks is that you help camp out with some projects throughout the week.

  • Volunteer Ranger - Volunteers to work with the ranger staff on projects such as campsite maintenance, new construction, and building maintenance.
  • Volunteer Commissioner - The commissioner’s role is to be a friend to every Scout and Scouter that attends camp. They will work with the commissioner staff to provide services to units throughout the week as well as other support roles such as campsite visits, program support, supply organization, and much more.

Anyone interested in helping in one of these roles can contact Samoset Camping at 715-365-3111 or email camp@samoset.org.

Scouts in Action Photo Contest Winner!

Thank you to all who have participated in the Samoset Council Scouts in Action Photo Contest!

It was wonderful to see so many photos of Scouts from all across the Council. Although we received so many submissions, we have decided the winner is Abby Runner! She took this photo of her son, Nick Hanson having an absolute blast flying down the zip line at Hanna Venture Base! Her winning photo will be hanging up in the Schuette Hall hallway in the near future!

Safety Moment

Safety Moments are exactly what the name implies: opportunities to prepare for an activity, review safety measures, and report incidents correctly. This month features internet safety.

The Internet has become a staple of our daily lives. We use it to check our email, socialize, find information, and countless other things. The Internet is full of valuable information. It also has negative and inappropriate information. Teaching Scouts to be SMART with their Internet usage can help protect them in the future.
