Congratulations 2017 Silver Beavers

The Silver Beaver Award is the distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America and is the highest award that is given on the council level. Recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council. The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

The 2017 Silver Beaver Recipients for Samoset Council are:

  • Randy Gilray
  • Bill Dunker
  • Kim Seehafer
  • Dan Zieher
  • Robert Glennon

These great volunteers will be presented with the Silver Beaver award on February 20, 2018 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Wausau. The event will start at 6:00 with dinner. Please plan to join us for this special event as we recognize this great group of volunteers and our 2017 Eagle Class.

Youth Protection Training Update

The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members.  True youth protection can be achieved only through the focused commitment of everyone in Scouting.  The BSA recently released a new version of youth protection training.  By October 1, 2018 all new and currently registered leaders will be required to complete the updated training.

Additional policies related to Samoset Camping events are listed. below.

  • All adults attending Camp Tesomas or Akela's World must be youth protection trained.
  • Adults attending Camp Tesomas this summer must be registered members of the BSA and Youth Protection trained.  Each unit will be asked to submit an official roster showing that adults are registered and have completed Youth Protection Training.

Youth protection training can be completed through My.Scouting.org.

For more information, please refer to the Youth Protection Training Quick Facts 2018.

If you have any questions, please contact Scott Domino at scott.domino@samoset.org.

Scout Spotlight

Jaxson Fabry: Eagle Scout, Venture Crew Member, OA Lodge Member

On Scout Sunday (Feb. 4), Jaxson was hanging out at the Zion Church after a crossover that they did in Marshfield. He came across an elderly woman sitting in church. She started talking to Jaxson and asked him "Think you could give me a ride home?" Unbeknownst to Jaxson, he didn't know who the lady was and he knew she couldn't be walking in the subzero weather. Right away he contacted Jim and explained what was going on. They figure out where she belonged to a nursing home and gave her a ride home. The staff of said nursing home didn't realize she even was gone, and it could have been a tragic event.

When Jaxson went back to the nursing home the next day to fill out an incident report, the family of the elderly woman thanked him and the director of the facility wanted to hire him on the spot because of the care and compassion he showed towards the elderly woman.

This really captures the type of young men we are bringing up in Scouting, and we should all be proud with what we are doing as it is making a lasting impact and impression on our Scouts.

24th World Scout Jamboree

The theme of the 2019 World Scout Jamboree is “Unlock a New World.” Now you’ve got the keys.

Registration for the 2019 World Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve is live. This means prospective youth participants, adult volunteers and staffers — known in World Scout Jamboree parlance as the International Service Team (IST) — can register to join the adventure.

The quadrennial event, held at the BSA’s high-adventure base in West Virginia and co-hosted with Scouts Canada and Asociación de Scouts de México, will be the first World Scout Jamboree in the United States in more than half a century.

This historic event will be held July 22 to Aug. 2, 2019. Learn More Here!
