Activities Committee Openings!

We will be hosting an Activities Committee meeting on 29th May at 7pm at the Scout Center. This will be a meeting for any volunteer looking to be involved in an Activity Team in the Council. We want to do strategic planning and define a plan for down the road.

We will have Buffalo Wild Wings for all the volunteers. If you are interested, please provide contact information to Christine Reynebeau so that she can get you on the list, or to attend that meeting!

Summer Activity Passport

To state it obviously, the summer months are hectic with family gatherings and can be difficult to attend Scouting activities regularly. Starting June 1st, your Scout can be active in the Scouting program throughout summer while creating memories with family at the same time!

Samoset Council's Dino-mite Summer Activity Passport!

To earn the patch, each Scout must participate in all 3 of the activities. You can see the passport here.

PARENTS: After you or your Scout’s Leader complete and sign this passport, send in the passport to get their special patch!

Patches will be given to your Pack Leader!

You can download your Dino-mite Passport here (PDF)!

Trapper Education Certification

The FTW (Future Trappers of Wisconsin) along with the WTA ( Wisconsin Trappers Association) will be holding its fourth camp in Eagle River at Trees for Tomorrow August 8th - 11th. The camp is for youth 10 to 18 years old. They will be limited to about 15 youth. There will be a lot of hands-on skills training (not just trapping) and at the end of the camp the youth will have a Trapper Education Certificate. The cost for the camp was $166 per student, but with the donations already received each youth would pay less than $100.  This cost includes room and board, transportation during the camp, and cost of the Trapper Education class. If you have Scouts who are interested they can contact Mike Kortenhof at 715-272-1358 or mkfurshed@hotmail.com.

OA Adult Nominations

Each year, upon holding a troop election for youth candidates which results in at least one youth candidate being elected, the unit committee may recommend adult candidates to the lodge adult selection committee.  See the nomination form linked below for more details.

All nomination forms must be mailed or hand delivered directly to the Lodge Election Advisor by May 1, even if the youth election has not been held by that point.

Volunteer Rangers & Commissioners

Adults are needed for the Volunteer Ranger and Commissioner Staff at camp this summer. Each program provides room and board for a week at camp and in return all we asks is that you help camp out with some projects throughout the week.

  • Volunteer Ranger - Volunteers to work with the ranger staff on projects such as campsite maintenance, new construction, and building maintenance.
  • Volunteer Commissioner - The commissioner’s role is to be a friend to every Scout and Scouter that attends camp. They will work with the commissioner staff to provide services to units throughout the week as well as other support roles such as campsite visits, program support, supply organization, and much more.

Anyone interested in helping in one of these roles can contact Samoset Camping at 715-365-3111 or email camp@samoset.org.

Safety Moment

Safety Moments are exactly what the name implies: opportunities to prepare for an activity, review safety measures, and report incidents correctly. This month features using a safety moment in Hiking.

Hiking is a great way to spend your time in the outdoors. It’s also a good way to get your heart pumping for some exercise or to test your limits. Some hikes are just a few hundred feet while others are many miles, but all can pose potential hazards if not carefully considered.
