Preserving The Legacy
Samoset Council Endowment Campaign
Samoset Council Trustee Chair Robert Weirauch is proud to announce the official kickoff of the Samoset Council Endowment Campaign “Preserving The Legacy.”
Samoset Scouting has a long and prestigious history of providing the best Camping experiences for thousands of youth and adults across the country. Tesomas Scout Camp, founded in 1930, Akela’s World Cub Scout Camp and the most recent addition Hanna Venture Base, have all been Nationally Accredited by the Boy Scouts of America every year. These Camps are also annually ranked in the Top 5 Camps across the Nation. These accomplishments are an extension of Samoset Council’s continued determination to provide the finest Camping experiences for all its members of the Boy Scouts of America and their families. Samoset Council continues to pledge its dedication to Preserving The Legacy and the development of young men and women. Achieving all of the program objectives of Samoset Council becomes increasingly more challenging each year. Financial resources must be secured to preserve our excellent camping properties.
While Samoset Council is financially stable, its annual program costs of $1.5 million must be secured through gifts from the friends and families of Scouting, foundation grants, special events, and United Ways. Support from traditional sources has not been able to keep up with Samoset Scouting’s growth. Because of the increasing demands from all segments of the community, United Way funding has decreased since 1987 from 51% to 6% of our annual budget.
A strategic solution to this responsibility to keep up with Scouting’s growth is development of the Samoset Council Endowment Trust Fund. This permanent, professionally managed fund is restricted in order that the principal remains in perpetuity, with only earned income used annually for the support of Samoset programs.
In an effort to encourage support for the Samoset Council Endowment Trust Fund, the Council has established the Scouting Heritage Society program and the Endowment Preserving The Legacy Campaign. Their objective is to encourage men and women who believe in Samoset Scouting to invest in its future. Preserving The Legacy ’s goal is to grow its Endowment Trust Fund to $3.5 million over the course of the next 5 to 10 years. Those who make gifts to the Samoset Council’s Endowment will become lifetime Samoset Scouting Heritage Society members with appropriate recognition and privileges. More importantly, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have enhanced the lives of generations of youth.

You can improve the lives of thousands of young men and women in northern Wisconsin. If you can give a financial gift, every gift we receive is important. Samoset Council, BSA’s successful accomplishments are due to the support we receive from people such as you.
For over 80 years, Samoset Scouting has provided a strong environment for youth to develop themselves into responsible and contributing adults. Our programs have enhanced strong values and ethics into thousands of young men. The need for Scouting is greater today more than ever. Children today need positive support in addition to their family and church influences. With your support we can all make a difference in the lives of our children.
Please join us in the most important task of our time, developing our youth and Preserving The Legacy of Samoset Scouting. All gifts can be pledged and payable over time. For example, a James E. West gift can be payable over 3-years with monthly payments of only $28.
2007 Update
In an effort to encourage support for the Preserving The Legacy’s goal of $10 million by 2017; many of our Board members and Trustees have pledged their support to the growth of the Endowment Trust. The Endowment Trust Fund is managed by a Board of Trustees. The members of this Board include Dan Daubert Chair, Richard Judy, Jeff Huttenburg, John Dudley, David Graebel, John Koci, Dr. Frederick Prehn, Patrick Wallschlaeger, Jerry Peura and Gene Davis. The funds in the Endowment Fund are financially managed by Wood Trust Asset Management.
Currently, the Preserving The Legacy Campaign has grown to approximately $5.9 million. We have seen an increase of approximately $1,381,000 over the last three years. Many of these pledges have been in the form of estate planned gifts and other gifts secured over time. We have also secured a matching gift of $40,000 from the Hobbs Estate from the Community Foundation of Green Bay.
We are making progress, however we need your support to ensure Samoset Scouting will be available for thousands of Scouters in the future. During these difficult economic and social times it is more important than ever to support the future of Samoset Scouting. There are many ways in which each of us can support Samoset Scouting. Wills, estate plans, tax deferred annuities and life insurance are an example of the methods available for you to meet your estate planning goals and support the future of Samoset Scouting without having an immediate cost to you.
Please join us in the most important task of our time, developing our youth and Preserving The Legacy of Samoset Scouting. If you have any questions about the Endowment Campaign, please contact us. Thank you once again for your time and continued support of Samoset Scouting.
Together we will make a difference!
