DISTRICT AWARDS
Each year, recognition is given to those Scouters who have shown outstanding service to the Scouting program within their unit or on the District level. It is the District’s way of saying, “Thanks for that extra effort for Scouting.” Nominations will be awarded for:
Rookie Scouter of the Year (Cub Scout & Boy Scout)
Scouter of the Year (Cub Scout & Boy Scout)
Scoutmaster of the Year
Cubmaster of the Year
Den Leader of the Year
Distinguished Service Award
Northwoods Award
District Award of Merit
This year’s District Awards will be presented on Thursday, May 2nd, at the annual Northwoods District Roundtable Potluck Picnic. Everyone is invited to attend!
Adult Scouters in the Northwoods District are urged to nominate those men and women who you feel are deserving of an award. The success of this awards program is dependent on nominations made by Scouters like you. Nomination forms are due by April 4th, 2013. Nomination requirements.
DESIGN THE 2013-2014 ROUNDTABLE ATTENDANCE PATCH
Submit your design idea at the May Roundtable where next year’s patch will be chosen by popular vote. To make a submission, please use the official form. More than one entry per person will be accepted.
Criteria:
1. Each segment should show something and alone be complete
2. Design should complement the Northwoods District
3. Draw design to scale using the template
4. Required wording on patch: 2013-2014, Northwoods District Roundtable. Additional wording is optional
5. Include a fleur-de-lis
NORTHWOODS DISTRICT PINEWOOD DERBY WINNERS
The 2013 Northwoods District Pinewood Derby was hosted by Pack 564 on March 9 at Arbor Vitae-Woodruff Elementary School. The top six winners from all Packs in the Northwoods were invited to attend, and trophies were awarded for places 1st through 6th. Medals were awarded based on car design, and all competitors received a special patch.
Special thanks to Sedlak Chevrolet Buick in Minocqua for sponsoring the race, Pack 564 for hosting and organizing a fantastic competition, Troop 564 for offering assistance and selling concessions at the race, Mike Wolf from WRJOldies for being an enthusiastic announcer, and Heather Holmes from The Lakeland Times for taking tons of great pictures.

IDITAROD REVIEW
The 2013 Northwoods Iditarod was hosted by Troop 540 at the Flambeau Canoe Base on February 22 – 24 with great success. The main competition of the weekend was the sled race, but Scouts also brushed up on their fire making, compass, and first aid skills for stations found along the “Iditarod Challenge Trail.” Troops 503, 507, 540, 564, and 599 were in attendance and had a wonderful time.
