Akela's Guide to the Galaxy...

AWTShirt

The Sun-Chip Solar Cruiser has crash landed in a mysterious galaxy. Cultures seem to be disappearing by the day. Could this be the cause of a dark alien invader? It is up to the Space Scouts to explore this uncharted galaxy and save up enough Space Credit to repair their ship. Maybe then they can find their way home.

The Akela’s World staff are out of this world in 2008. Literally! This years theme, “Akela’s Guide to the Galaxy” is going to launch the scouts right into space. Program Director Brock Raabe, and his command crew are working hard to build a galaxy for the Space Scouts to discover and explore. The camp will be filled with ancient space cultures, quirky characters and even alien invaders.

You and your Scouts are sure to find a fun and educational new look at summer camp. Join us as we discover and explore the fun of Scouting.

Pre-Camp Swim Tests

Units have the option to complete a swim test prior to their arrival. By participating, you will save valuable campsite setup time and time at Huck Finn’s for Cubs. This will also make it easier to do individual unit activities before you come to camp.

2008 Camp Sessions

Wolf/Bear Sessions

Younger Cub Scouts have an easier time at camp if Mom or Dad can join them. Often Cub Scout camp is their first experience away from home. For this reason the Wolf/Bear sessions are shorter in length and often fall over a weekend to better accommodate parent work schedules.

Activities are focused on 2nd and 3rd grade level with advancement opportunities from the Wolf and Bear book as well as Sports and Academics belt loops. These sessions are only open to Wolf and Bear Scouts.

• July 11 to July 13 (Friday to Sunday) is a Wolf/Bear 2 Day session
• July 21 to July 24 (Monday to Thursday) is a Wolf/Bear 3 Day session
• July 28 to July 31 (Monday to Thursday) is Wolf/Bear 3 Day session
• August 1 to August 3 (Friday to Sunday) is a Wolf/Bear 2 Day session

Webelos Sessions

Older Scouts return to Akela’s World for their second or third summer and are looking for more challenging activities as well as a longer stay. We offer 4 day sessions for Webelos.

There will be a focus on Webelos advancement including Webelos Activity badges and Sports and Academics belt loops. Scouts will have the opportunity to try some things not available to the younger Scouts like kayaking on Crystal Lake or climbing at our indoor wall at nearby Hanna Venture Base. Webelos sessions are open to Webelos Scouts entering 4th and 5th grade.

• July 13 to July 17 (Sunday to Thursday) is a Webelos 4 Day session
• August 3 to August 7 (Sunday to Thursday) is a Webelos 4 Day session

Combination Sessions

Many smaller Cub Scout Packs find the need for all their age groups to attend camp at the same time to have enough adult leadership. For this reason we offer several 3 Day sessions that are open to Wolves, Bears and Webelos.

Activities and advancement are similar to the other sessions. At certain times during the session the Wolf and Bear Scouts will do different activities or advancements than the older Webelos will do.

• July 7 to July 10 (Monday to Thursday) is a Combination 3 Day session
• July 18 to July 21 (Friday to Monday) is a Combination 3 Day session
• July 25 to July 28 (Friday to Monday) is a Combination 3 Day session
• August 8 to August 11 (Friday to Monday) is a Combination 3 Day session - by request we have changed this session from a wolf/bear to a combination.
• August 11 to August 14 (Monday to Thursday) is a Combination 3 Day session
