Camp HistoryAkela's World Cub Scout Camp opened for campers in the summer of 1993. Since then camp has seen tremendous growth, becoming the #1 Cub Scout Resident Camp in the nation for 2001, 2002 and 2003! In 2004 it was #1 in the Central Region and #2 in the country. Akela’s World serves over 1,800 campers each summer and provides countless opportunities for Cub Scouts. Camp is located approximately 8 miles north of the city of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, in the heart of the northwoods. This environment creates an excellent setting for fun and learning. Akela's World is part of the Crystal Lake Scout Reservation, which is home to three Scout Camps. Tesomas Scout Camp is Samoset Council's Boy Scout Summer Camp, which also serves over 2,400 campers per summer. Hanna Venture Base is Samoset Council's newest camping facility, opening its doors in the year 2000. Samoset Council has a strong tradition of camping excellence at every camp and that will continue in the future as we prepare for another great summer of camping! Akela's World serves both Cub Scouts & Webelos Scouts during the summer. We have separate sessions for each of these age groups so that we are able to tailor our programs and advancement opportunities for their different ages. We will continue to improve our programs and facilities to remain one of the nation's premiere Cub Scout Resident Camps and we hope you will continue to be a part of our success! |
