Wood Badge for the 21st Century
Upon completion of Leader Specific Training, an adult is eligible to attend Wood Badge for the 21st Century. As the core leadership skills training course for the BSA, Wood Badge focuses on strengthening every volunteer's ability to work with groups of youth and adults and is less focused on outdoor skills, which are more effectively addressed in other training courses.
Incorporating leadership concepts that are used in corporate America, the course teaches participants the basics of listening, communicating, valuing people, team development, situational leadership, problem solving, and managing conflict. Once the skill is learned, each member is given the opportunity to use the skill as a member of a successful working team. At the conclusion of the course, each participant develops a set of personal goals related to his or her Scouting role. Working toward these goals allows each participant to practice and demonstrate new skills.
Course Details:
This course is limited to only 48 participants. Applications are accepted on a first-come basis. Sign up early to secure your chance for a mountaintop Scouting experience in 2011. This course will include two full 3-Day weekends of Friday morning through Sunday afternoon and two interim Patrol Meetings at the time and location of the Patrol’s choice.
Requirements to Participate:
- Be a registered member of BSA
- Attendance at both weekends is required
- Complete New Leader Essentials and Leader Specific Training for your registered position.
- Must be capable of functioning safely in an outdoor environment. BSA Class 3 physical is required.
- Outdoor Skills Training is not required but would be useful.
- A full Scout uniform will be the dress for the course.
Outcomes
You will have the opportunity to join with other Scouters to share ideas, discuss challenges and locate resources. Attendees form new and lasting friendships during their Wood Badge experiences, Wood Badge is an intense leadership training that will change your life.
Wood Badge teaches leadership and team-building skills in a comfortable outdoor setting. There isn't anything else in Scouting like it. Best of all, Wood Badge is FUN! Please join us on the trail to a mountaintop experience in one of the greatest adventures in Scouting.
